Forced Asphalt Mixing Plant VS Drum Type Asphalt Mixing Plant

Asphalt mixing plant, can be heated cold aggregates such as sand and gravel, then mixed with additives such as liquid asphalt and mineral powder to one place and combined into a mixture with temperature up to 160-180° for laying asphalt pavement.

There are two types of common asphalt mixing plants: forced type and drum type. Forced asphalt mixing plants produce asphalt mixes in batches with short intervals between batches; drum type asphalt mixing plants are able to produce asphalt mixes continuously and without interruption. Therefore, in some countries or regions, forced type asphalt mixing plants are also called intermittent asphalt mixing plants and drum type asphalt mixing plants are also called continuous asphalt mixing plants.

How do they mix? What are the differences in the mixes they produce? Which road projects are they suitable for? What are the differences in price?

 

 

A. What are the differences between forced type and drum type asphalt mixing plant?

 

1. Forced asphalt mixing plant

Description

The cold aggregate is poured into the suitable graded batching hopper according to different particle sizes, and then brought to a vibrating sieve by the conveyor belt, the cold aggregate with particle size larger than 4cm is filtered out, and the other cold aggregate is sent to the drying cylinder by the inclined belt machine. After drying and heating these hot aggregates enter the elevator from the burner end. With its help, the hot aggregate reaches the vibrating screen. Depending on the size of the sieve holes, the hot aggregate is sieved into different hot bins. After precise weighing, the hot aggregates in different bins are put down to the mixing tank one by one according to the pre-set ratio, the powder is also dropped from the screw conveyor, and the heated liquid asphalt is sprayed outward by the nozzle. After mixing, one batch of finished material is produced.

 

2. Drum type asphalt mixing plant

Description

The drying drum of drum type asphalt mixing plant integrates drying, heating and mixing functions. The cold aggregate enters the non-stop rotating drum from the grading machine through the belt and is dried and heated first. The asphalt nozzle inside the drum continuously sprays asphalt, and the two are bonded and mixed with the rotation of the drum. This series of actions are continuously carried out in the drying drum.

2. Finished material

Description

The capacity of forced asphalt mixing plant is usually larger and suitable for large and medium-sized projects. The finished material produced is of high quality and suitable for paving high grade roads, such as highways, etc.

The capacity of roller type asphalt mixing plant is much smaller and can only be used for small projects. Due to the lack of precise measurement, no powder is added, and the oil to stone ratio cannot be changed precisely, the finished products are of lower quality and suitable for low grade roads.

 

B. What are the advantages and disadvantages of forced asphalt mixing plant and drum type asphalt mixing plant?

 

Forced asphalt mixing plant is widely used because of the good quality of the finished material and its applicability to high-level roads; drum asphalt mixing plant has high cost performance and low investment cost, and can be applied to a large number of low-grade roads in rural areas.
